S3-compatible object storage

Object storage is cloud space used by software rather than people: backup tools, a web shop holding thousands of product photos, a document system full of scanned invoices. It grows almost without limit and you pay for what it holds. Its big advantage over an office NAS or a OneDrive folder is object locking, which can be set so that nobody, not even an administrator, can delete a backup before a chosen date. Imagine a dental clinic in Seville whose server is encrypted by ransomware on a Monday morning. If the backups sat on a NAS on the same network, they are probably encrypted too. If they sat in S3 with locking switched on, they can be restored.

A provider with honest pricing

Bucket design

Separate buckets for backups, archives and application files, each with its own encryption and a written access policy.

Deletion lock

Object Lock in compliance mode for the period you decide. Until it expires, neither a staff member nor an intruder with stolen credentials can remove the backups.

Hooked into your backups

We connect Veeam, Acronis, restic or whatever you already run, plus Microsoft 365 backups, so everything ships automatically each night.

Least privilege

A separate key for each system with only the rights it needs: the backup tool can upload but cannot delete. Keys are rotated regularly and kept in your password manager.

Lifecycle rules

Older data moves to cheaper cold storage and anything past its retention period is deleted automatically, without anyone having to remember.

Restore test

We recover a sample of files and, where relevant, a whole machine. The service is not considered delivered until this test passes.

Storing is cheap; getting it back may not be. Plenty of providers charge for every gigabyte downloaded. Day to day you barely notice, but after an incident, when several terabytes have to come back in one go, the bill can match months of storage fees. So before choosing we always work out two figures: the monthly cost of keeping the data and the cost of a full restore. Some European providers charge nothing for downloads, which turns the comparison upside down.

Common questions

Because they sync every change, ransomware encryption included, and they were never designed for server backups. Object storage is used by software, handles huge volumes and, with locking enabled, stops anything stored from being deleted or altered.

Legal retention periods for accounts, payroll or medical records are set by law and are best confirmed with your accountant or DPO. For operational backups we suggest a common pattern: two weeks of dailies, two months of weeklies and a year of monthlies.

Data is encrypted on the server by default. For sensitive information such as health data we add encryption at source, so the provider only ever receives unreadable blocks. The key stays with your company, with an offline copy, because without it nothing can be recovered.

The storage must appear in your record of processing activities with provider, region and retention period. Backups mean an erased record lives on until the copies expire; that is acceptable if it is documented and time-limited, and we give you the wording to record it.

The provider bills you for the space used and, where applicable, for downloads. Set-up is charged at €75 per hour + VAT; monitoring of backups and test restores can then be folded into a Start, Business or Premium plan.
